This page would be changed and corrected in the future.
Actually, there are few opportunities to see contemporary Chinese art. If you could see it in overseas exhibitions, you would find the same artists are often the case. Today I'm going to introduce you to "Contemporary Chinese Art: A History 1970s-2000s" by Wu Hung.
Born in Beijing, China, Wu Hung 巫鴻 is from a generation that knows the era of the Cultural Revolution. When he was young, he worked in traditional museum in China, so he was familiar with Chinese pre-modern art and published books about it.
As the title suggests, the book covers from the 1970s to the 2000s. The writing is clear and the illustrations are large, so it is perfect for a clue to modern Chinese art. Some artists, like Cai Guo-Qiang 蔡国强 and Xu Bing 徐冰, are described in detail along the time axis.
You can see worldwide artists and temporary but important artists evenly. Writing such contemporary art history is to record artists and works of his generation, and it is a job that Wu Hung can do.
