<read> Total Modernity and the Avant-Garde in Twentieth-Century Chinese Art
There are few books on Asian contemporary art written in English, but they are all wonderful. I'll teach you stealthily.
This page would be changed and corrected in the future.
As an objective consideration of art, we should consider not only art history (time), but also aesthetics and places. This book is easy to understand them in China, the author is Gao MingLu(高名潞).
Gao Ming-lu “Total Modernity and the Avant-Garde in Twentieth-Century Chinese Art”, cover
Time, aesthetics and place of the 20th century art are from the Western perspective. This book teaches you that we look at the time, aesthetics, and places from the Chinese perspective after the 21st century when Chinese art became popular.
The illustrations in this book are available until the 2000s, but the contents of the text are by the 1980s. Reading it, however, we can understand how Chinese aesthetics are perceived from the 1980s to the 2000s.
For it, the author developed his own theory, which is simple but difficult. Greek philosophy has not continued yet, but Chinese philosophy has continued over 3000 years ago. Perhaps if we really want to understand his theory (Yi Pai) and Chinese contemporary art, we need to understand Chinese aesthetics and history over 3000 years, hahaha!
