<introduction> Chisai and this last ten years (5)
My name is Chisai Fujita 藤田 千彩. my job is writing articles and research about contemporary art. Today is April 29th.
Osamu Kokufu, “Endless Rain”, 2014
This photo was uploaded on the first day of Kokufu's solo exhibition in Aomori Contemporary Art Centre on April 26, 2014.
Kokufu picked up me at Aomori station. And he drove his small track, it turned left corner at either the city hall or the prefectural office. He ignored my excited voice because there are full blooming cherry blossoms and said,
"Well, the dirty air is only diluted because we think the world is large, isn't it? The falling rain is supposed to come up from the ground to the sky and be clean. But, in fact, the air and rain are dirty, isn't it?"
"When I was taking a bath when Chisai wasn't there, I felt sad and lonely... Then it rained."
"Because you're always with me?"
(He smiled)
"Listening to the sound of rain...... it rains and seeps through the ground...... evaporates...... and falls from the sky again, doesn't it? At the same time, X Japan's song "Endless Rain" was running through my head."
"What? Do you remember that lyric that has '♪in the wound of my heart' in that song?"
"We have wound in our hearts. ♪Endless rain~ (he sang)"
"Oh, you're a good singer today!"
(He smiled again)
"So I hurriedly got out of the bath and drew...... I sent it right away to curator. That's why the artwork title is 'Endless Rain'".
"Hmmm".
"This morning, one elderly couple came to my exhibition. Husband asked, 'Is this an image of the Fukushima nuclear power plant?' and said, 'it is heartbreaking'. I was glad that there was someone who could understand my feelings even in such a work.
He said with a smile on one's face,
"Even if we think that this world is big, it is just that it is fading by circulation...... I think, it doesn't make sense not only to circulate water but also to circulate air, does it? Don't you think so?"
I didn't really understand at that time because it was before I saw the actual work. And three days after we had this conversation, Kokuhu died in this work on April 29, 2014.
