<research> South Korea (6)
Chisai researches contemporary art world. I almost forgot about the diversity of Korean art, so I will write it down!
One day, I got a message from Bokyong (see, <research> South Korea (1)) saying, "please come to Busan Recycled Center".
Busan Recycled Center, 2018
I wonder if she used garbage and created artworks or something? If you look at the map, it is in the suburbs of Busan. She said, "yes, it is about an hour by taxi from the center". Nani, it is a long way for me!
An exhibition Bokyong (and her "project team fancy") curated was taking place in the aisle on the ground floor of the center. It was NOT a common exhibition, but I won't write about it today, hahaha.
After I saw it, she guided me to the second floor.
Busan Recycled Center, 가치 GACHI, 2018
Surprisingly, there is a workshop room!! Its name is "가치 Gachi", it means “value” in English. And, Korean has another “Gachi 같이”. It is same pronounce but different spell, it means “together” in English.
There, children and artists can find new/another value (Gachi 가치) from recycle trash together (Gachi 같이).
Busan Recycled Center, 2018
I also found out that there are artists in charge of each garbage material. It is amazing!
I don't know if it's still going on in 2023. But it is interesting that people recycle waste and make art works in the recycling center. Because garbage which is a material is nearby and you can think about the garbage problem there. I think it also shows the diversity of Korean art here.
